Launched! Porsche Boxster Spyder

What you see here is the lightest Porsche available from Stuttgart – 1,275 kg to be exact – set to debut in February 2010. At the heart of it will be a 3.4 liter six cylinder engine pumping out 320 hp and mated to the PDK (Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe) transmission. Having 10 additional ponies over the standard Boxster S, this car is no slouch. 0-100 km/h in approx. 4.8 seconds makes it a force to be reckoned with within the Porsche family.

Styling wise, the car is unique in that it will come with a low-roof soft top and low side windows to replicate the original 356 Spyder look. For the exterior, there are revised front and rear bumpers, unique wheels, and 2 rear humps on the deck lid.

The interior will have sports seats, a body colored center console and one of my favorite touches, the reddish leather straps in place of door handles. Classy.
It won’t be cheap as the car is expected to eclipse the $80,000 mark.

More fitting name ONLY if it was meant to be a 911 variant…
This particular machine was intended as an homage to the 356 spyder, but the 987 (boxster) is actually the great grandaughter of the 914 NOT the 356!
The 356 evolved into the 914, then the 944, followed by the 968 and finally as the Cayman. Hence, it would have made more “german sense” to have called it the Cayman Spyder!!!

And I’m assuming the “more fitting name” you are talking about is the Speedster.
Interesting info on the car’s lineage. Cheers!

I honestly like the porsche boxster and cayman, they are excellent machines.. now this one is a nice machine as well.. I would just tune it to get another 60 to 80 bhp out of it..

I finally love the boxter. They really manned it up. Just like Tarek said, it is basically a Cayman spyder. We’re getting it in the states for $61k, so Id say buy here, ship there.

I was expecting it to be priced higher for some reason. $60,000 is quite the deal!
