How long do the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport’s tires last for? Prepare to be shocked!
The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport is no joke of a machine. It tops out at 415 km/h which is the new world record for a production car. With the capability of reaching that kind of velocity, the tires must be able to take one hell of a load. According to Bugatti engineers, running at top speed, the tires have a life span of approximately 37 miles only. Insanity!

I believe the tires cost somewhere in the region of $17,000 for a set; however, that is the pricing for the regular Veyron’s tires. These will probably cost more considering they have to handle more speed!

A set of Bugatti SS tires with the 265mm base are $42,000 USD.

Think, if you can buy a Veyron in the first place, 17,000$ or lets say 25,000$(guess) for the upgraded tires would be spare change

This doesn’t seem correct. At top speed the veyron will run out of gas in about 12 minutes and cover over 50 miles. Will the tires reallly pop before you run out of gas on the 2011 model? That seems too dangerous.

A very valid question Peter. As you can see at the bottom of the article, the source cited was “Tyrepress” who are supposed to be specialists in the tire industry. But if the tires do pop before you run out of gas, that is a bit nonsensical. Are you sure that the Veyron Supersport will run for 50 miles at full speed before coming to a stop? I thought it would be less.

Where could you even do top speed in this car for 37 miles? I’ve only seen them take it to top speed on long straights. I’m guessing they are taking this from engineering calculations and I can’t imagine anyone ever actually managing it or being foolish enough to try.

Seems unlikely that anyone can or would attempt the top speed run on a regular highway… it’s pretty-much impossible anyways unless it’s a completely deserted highway.
I agree though the numbers are probably all based on engineering calculations and previous tests performed on the car.

There is no special second version of the tires. The tires they supply are designed to go the speed. And anyway the tires and wheels remain the property of Michelin. What you pay to have them serviced is how much it costs for them to make the tires and mount them.

@j s: Interesting points you make. From the reports I read, there is supposed to be a higher grade version of the tire for the Super Sport, however, the sources could be mistaken. Any way of confirming this for knowledge’s sake?

Something that I have seen done before, why not use solid rubber?
The ride is bumpier, but in return for no flats, no blow outs, and a lot of rubber to burn.
