Porsches = Smiles for U.S. troops
I was invited by the founder of the Porsche Enthusiasts Club of Kuwait, Tarek Al Shafie, to take part in a group drive up to Camp Arifjan for the U.S. Army’s 3rd Annual Muscle Car & Bike Show.
The show was created a few years back to provide American troops, stationed in Kuwait, with an opportunity to get some face-time with muscle cars and motorcycles from local clubs.
The reason we were invited was to add a bit of German flair to the American machinery usually on display at the show. After all, who doesn’t have a soft spot for Porsches?
The journey to the military camp started off at 8:15 AM, on a freezing and somewhat hazy morning.
We left the Mishref area in a convoy of nine Porsches, ranging from 993 Carreras to a 997 GT3. I was handed the keys to a yellow 993 Carrera Cabriolet… too bad it was too cold to put the top down.
Once we arrived to Camp Arifjan, we had to go through a lengthy security-check process… understandably so.
We were then escorted into the base, following a white Ford Crown Victoria with flashing police lights.
As soon as we parked, we got the chance to stretch our legs and do a little bit of roaming around the supermarket and cafe areas. Then it was back to the display area, interacting with the troops and other car lovers whenever the opportunity arose.
All in all, it was definitely an enjoyable way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Thank you Porsche Enthusiasts Club of Kuwait!

“After all, who doesn’t have a soft spot for Porsches?”
I don’t. I actually hate Porsches, especially the Carrera.

@Miss Good Egg
the saying goes: If it ain’t a Carrera it ain’t a Porsche! Please don’t tell me you think the Cayenne is a Porsche lol

lol I don’t like the Cayenne either x[ I sat in the passenger seat of the Panamera and it was tolerable although I’m not psyched about how it looks from the outside either. Dunno, just not a Porsche person I guess hehe.
