F1′s Bahrain Grand Prix under threat once again
F1′s Bahrain Grand Prix just can’t catch a break! Last year’s race was postponed due to protests and violence, eventually being canceled altogether for the 2011 season. Now, it seems likely that the race is under threat once again with a fresh round of protests taking place. This time though, the protesters are clearly after F1.
On Twitter, protesters have been using the hashtags #BloodyF1 and #noF1 to show their disapproval for the race taking place, linking graphic photos and videos of violence in the country. Even worse, witnesses claim that a 22-year-old man filming the protests was shot and killed making cancelation of the Grand Prix a potential reality for the 2012 season.
Let’s hope the situation calms down, first and foremost for the safety of the Bahraini people.

These protests have gone overboard! I hope F1 doesn’t get canceled again, they really do need it and brings a lot of income to the country and people could use something good to look forward to!

Race shouldn’t happen this year. I Love F1, and the Bahrain F1 race was the first race weekend I ever attended. But priorities people !!!

Considering it’s the biggest event of the year in Bahrain (tourism, income, etc.), the protesters are attempting to use it as leverage for their cause; it’s definitely a way for them to reach the international community and with all the media coverage this issue has been attracting over the last few weeks, it seems to be working. I just hope it doesn’t get out of hand.
