The ‘Lost Mercedes’
How do you lose track of something like this? Think it’s normal? Think again because this Mercedes-Benz is expected to fetch more than £1.5 million when it hits the auction block at Bonhams Goodwood Revival in September.
This 1928 Mercedes-Benz 26/120/180 ‘S’ Type Sports Tourer has apparently been in a single family’s ownership from the day it was purchased new, evidenced by its 1928 logbook. That eventually led to the car’s mysterious disappearance from the vintage auto realm. Ferdinand Porsche designed the supercharged 6.8-liter engine, known for its distinctive scream, which saw the ‘S’ achieve more than 100mph at the Nürburgring in 1927.
The car has never been restored, retaining its original dark battleship gray paint and blue leather upholstery. Described as a ’timewarp find’, the Mercedes has been parked in the same garage since the 1930′s. An absolute gem discovered?

Now I’m tempted to visit the owners and interrogate them, look into their photo album, inspect their family tree, read the logbook and sniff the leather car seat. Ok cross the last part.
