Launched! Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake
Mercedes were the innovative force behind the creation of the 4-door coupe segment. Audi and BMW followed suit, so what could Mercedes do next to differentiate itself? Their answer was to create a “shooting brake” version, yet again kicking the competition in the… well, you know where.
Although it may look like a station-wagon version of the CLS, the Shooting Brake is completely unique from the windshield back. The car is slightly longer, with extra legroom and storage space.
It will be available with two diesel engine variants, as well as two gasoline-powered units: the CLS 350 (V6; 306hp) and the CLS 500 (V8; 408hp). All engines will come mated to the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic gearbox and an ECO start/stop system. Interestingly so, one of the diesel engines and the CLS 500 will be available with all-wheel drive. We should also expect a CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake version powered by the twin-turbo 518hp 5.5-liter V8 found in the CLS63 AMG four-door coupe some time after its launch.
Five interior colors, five trim designs, three qualities of leather and three exclusive wood types are optional for buyers to choose from. An AMG-inspired interior is also available with the use of carbon fiber and black piano lacquer trim elements.
The rear seats retain their sporty contours in whichever leather configuration chosen, while buyers can spec the rear luggage compartment to come laid with designo wooden flooring.
The CLS Shooting Brake is expected to debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, which is when pricing and on-sale dates should be announced.Explore posts in the same categories: Automotive, Launched! comment below, or link to this permanent URL from your own site.
