A Caddy fit for a gangster
Al Capone. You must have heard the name before. American gangster. Prohibitionist. An Italian mobster who’s illegal activities rewarded him with endless streams of money. And that’s why he was able to afford this ride back in the day.
Capone was such a powerful figure that his 1928 Cadillac V-8 Town Sedan came painted in green with black fenders, similar to Chicago police cars at the time. It was also specced with a siren, flashing lights and a police-band radio receiver.
The Cadillac was outfitted with 3,000lb of steel armor to ensure no bullets could penetrate the car’s body.
The Capone Caddy also came with bulletproof glass windows that housed small circular holes, enough to fit machine guns through, in case of an armed attack.
After Capone’s imprisonment, the car was then used by President Roosevelt. A Caddy fit for a president then? It’s now up for auction, expected to fetch £325,000 pounds.
