First new Range Rovers delivered to the Ruler of Dubai

November 21, 2012

The first dealer in the world to deliver the all new Range Rover is Al Tayer Motors in the UAE. The keys to two examples went to Sheikh Mohammed, the Ruler of Dubai, and another set went to the Crown Prince. I don’t know what’s more bling bling? Having the first example or that “Dubai 1″ license plate?

A licensing service for classic cars older than 30 years has launched in the UAE. The Licensing Agency of the Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai, in collaboration with the UAE Automobile and Touring Club, will hold its first auction on the 14th of June, giving classic car owners the opportunity to bid on unique license plate numbers. There will also be plates available via direct sale.

As per the regulations, the cars must 30 years or older, all the parts must be original and the vehicles must pass a technical inspection. There will be six categories: Class A cars will be free to (more…)

Neglected Ferrari Enzo in Dubai doesn’t make the auction block

April 30, 2012

A few days ago, I posted news on the world’s most expensive police sale in Dubai. It was so extravagant that the car auction even had a Ferrari Enzo on the chopping block. BUT now… the Dubai Police say the car was seized as evidence in a crime, meaning it was (more…)

Most expensive police sale in history to take place in Dubai

April 25, 2012

When the economic crisis struck, many cars were left abandoned by their owners in Dubai. Majority of these people just couldn’t afford to hold onto these cars anymore, let alone any of their other expensive purchases. Add the fact that being in debt is a crime in Dubai, and it makes sense why some of these people left their lives behind with no intention of returning.

This super-rare Ferrari Enzo was a victim of abandonment. And it’s now heading to the chopping block to take part in the most expensive police sale in history. The Enzo is said to belong to (more…)

The rodeo comes to the Dubai Autodrome. Err, not quite…

February 5, 2012

Who says racing bikes aren’t beasts?!?! This rider, who I believe is Ian Wilcox – a rookie in the UAE Sportbikes Championship – would beg to differ. One thing’s for sure, he’s definitely got the skills to keep the wild bull tamed. Watch how he saves face in the video after the jump. (more…)

Video: Nissan’s Juke-R terrorizes supercars in Dubai

February 1, 2012

When the Nissan Juke-R first surfaced, some labeled it as a publicity stunt. “Why squeeze the Skyline GT-R’s 480hp engine into a Juke” was what they probably said to themselves. Nissan’s answer to the doubters: show that their Godzilla crossover could take on the likes of Lamborghini and Ferrari.

Since the Juke-R debuted in Dubai at the Dunlop 24 Hours race, Nissan decided to unleash it against a few supercars at a little autocross circuit setup near a marina in the emirate. How did it do? Your answer is in the video after the jump. (more…)

Personalized license plates coming to Dubai?

January 26, 2012

Dubai is known for its flamboyant license plate auctions, where the sales of these plates tend to raise about 70 million dirhams annually! Apparently, the funds raised support transport projects around the emirate.

And because of this craze, which primarily rests with the Emiratis, foreigners are beginning to catch on too. So offering personalized license plates seems like the next step that (more…)

Changing tires on your exotic supercar? Don’t do what someone did in Dubai!

January 8, 2012

This is pretty ridiculous if you ask me. This Gemballa Mirage GT – a tuned, twin-turbocharged Porsche Carrera GT – is worth a hefty sack of change, especially considering it’s one of nineteen examples out there. So what makes it okay to change its tires in this manner?!?! (more…)

Nissan’s Juke-R coming to Dubai??? Yup!

December 22, 2011

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the Juke-R. The 480hp monster (or shall I say Godzilla?) was a recent exercise whereby a Nissan Juke received a transplant in the form of a Skyline GT-R’s engine, transmission and other mechanical / electrical bits.

And if you became a follower of the project as well, then I have some good news for you. (more…)

Dubai ad firm re-sparks the Audi vs BMW rivalry

October 6, 2011

BMW and Audi have never kept their rivalry a secret. If anything, the friendly competition has probably done both their brands some good.

Taking it to the next level, a Dubai-based advertising agency called Tonic International has taken a direct stab at (more…)

How to get people to pay traffic fines

September 10, 2011

One characteristic which the Emirate of Dubai never seems to lack is creativity. And I think its newest move could be somewhat of a masterstroke. It’s known that people slack when it comes to paying their traffic fines, so how to get them paid? (more…)

Dubai cracking down on naughty VIPs

August 7, 2011

We all know that VIPs get away with a lot when it comes to traffic violations, unpaid tickets and things of the sort. I was actually quite surprised (and proud) to read that in Dubai, they are cracking down on this very thing.

According to police reports, over 7,000 traffic violations were committed by Dubai VIPs in the first half of 2011. Dubai’s police Commander General – Dahi Khalfan Tamim – paid Dh3,000 in fines for traffic violations. His deputy, Major General Khamis Mata Al Muzainah also paid (more…)

June 8, 2011

No one has created more insane Mercedes-based machines than Brabus. The German tuner has been working on expanding its portfolio by taking the brand into new markets, leading to the launch of a new center in Dubai.

Brabus Middle East is located on Sheikh Zayed Road in a building with more than 3,000 m² of space. With a large showroom area, a workshop, an upholstery shop and a (more…)

Seriously? A “superbus”? (w/videos)

May 10, 2011

Fresh from a trip in Dubai, there was a bit of buzz making the rounds about a “superbus” which was currently in the works. How super exactly? This “superbus” will carry 23 passengers while traveling at a speed of 250km/h on a dedicated “speed track” (concrete track running parallel to the existing motorway). The “superbus” is made out of carbon fiber keeping the weight of this massive vehicle as low as possible, while it’s powered by (more…)
