Toyota and Lexus have issued recalls in the Middle East covering the Avalon, Corolla and LX470 (Land Cruiser not affected) models due to the following problems:
- 2002 – 2007 Lexus LX 470: steering column may disengage if there is severe impact to the front wheels (i.e. striking a pothole). No accidents have been reported thus far. This issue affects thousands of LX 470s throughout the GCC; 2,840 in the UAE.
- 1999 – 2004 Toyota Avalon: steering lock bar may crack with wear and tear possibly leading to steering lock while driving. 816 cars in the UAE are affected by this issue; GCC not specified.
- 2000 – 2001 Toyota Corolla: passenger airbags might possibly not deploy under certain conditions. Numbers unspecified.
